Background checks are mandatory for all applicants enrolling into Emergency Medical Technician, Law Enforcement, Massage Therapy, Medical Assistant, Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy programs. Background instructions are different for each program.

Emergency Medical Technician

TCR requires a background check on all enrolling EMS Students. The instructions below describe how to go online and receive the background check from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, at a cost of $6.85. On completion, it will be emailed to you within minutes of your submission and payment. You can print & include with your application or have it sent directly to TCR.

*Please note this is a name check only. This background check will not take the place of the fingerprint based background check required for STATE Certification as an EMT after completion of the course and national registry testing. The Colorado EMS website lists information regarding criminal background. (www.cdphe.state.co.us/em/certificationeducation/certification/criminalconvictionpolicy)

It has been mandated by the state, that all students have a criminal background check done prior to being accepted into the Law Enforcement Police Academy. This background check is through Colorado Bureau of Investigation,Cost $6.80.

Fingerprints

It has been mandated by the state that all students be fingerprinted prior to being accepted into the Law Enforcement Academy. The cost to the student is $39.50. There may be a fee payable to the agency doing the prints.

Law Enforcement Background Check

Massage Therapy

The  Massage Therapy Program requires a  background check from all potential students.  The purpose for this is to maintain a safe and productive educational and clinical environment.

An Applicant may be disqualified from the Massage Program program based on the following guidelines:

  • Any violent felony convictions of homicide. (No time limit)
  • Crimes of violence (assault, sexual offenses, arson, kidnapping, any crime against an at-risk adult or juvenile, etc.) as defined in section
  • 18-1.3-406 C.R.S. in the 10 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
  • Any offense involving unlawful sexual behavior in the 10 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
  • Any crime, the underlying basis of which has been found by the court on the record to include an act of domestic violence, as defined
  • in section 18-6-800.3 C.R.S. in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
  • Any crime of child abuse, as defined in section 18-6-401 C.R.S. in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
  • Any crime related to the sale, possession, distribution or transfer of narcotics or controlled substances in the 7 years immediately
  • preceding the submittal of application.
  • Any felony theft crimes in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
  • Any misdemeanor theft crimes in the 5 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
  • Any offense of sexual assault on a client by a psychotherapist, as defined in section 18-3-405.5 C.R.S. in the 7 years immediately
  • preceding the submittal of application.
  • Crimes of moral turpitude (prostitution, public lewdness/exposure, etc.) in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
  • Registered Sex Offenders. (No time limit)
  • Any offense in another state, the elements of which are substantially similar to the elements of any of the above offenses.
  • More than one (1) D.U.I. in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
  • If the investigation reveals information that could be relevant to the application, the designated individual responsible

Instructions

  • Complete criminal background check only through Certified Background at http://cccs.castlebranch.com
  • Select, Technical College of the Rockies.
  • Select Massage Therapy from the drop down menu.

Applicants 18 years or older, cost is $34.50. Applicants under 18 years of age, cost is $24.90.

Certified Background will send the report electronically to the Massage Therapy Coordinator at the Technical College of the Rockies. Students may obtain a copy from TCR upon request or have a copy directly emailed to them upon request.

Massage Therapy Background Check

Medical Assistant & Phlebotomy

The Colorado Community College System (“CCCS”) and the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education authorize the nursing programs to conduct a background investigation of all student applicants. The clinical sites used in the nursing programs require background checks of all potential interns. The purpose is to maintain a safe and productive educational and clinical environment. New students who refuse to comply with the background investigation will not be allowed to enter a CCCS Nursing Program.

The following criminal offenses appearing on a criminal background check will disqualify an applicant for admission to CCCS Nursing, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Science, and Allied Health Programs.

If a disqualifying offense is on the report, the student will be notified that he/she will not be accepted into the program and will be encouraged
to contact their legal counsel to assist them in clearing their record. Until the student’s record is clear of disqualifying offenses, the student will
not be admitted into the Medical Assistant program. Please see the guidelines below.

• Crimes of violence (assault, sexual offenses, arson, kidnapping, any crime against an at-risk adult or juvenile, etc.) as defined in section 18-
1.3-406 C.R.S. in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
• Any offense involving unlawful sexual behavior in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.

the submittal of application.
• Any felony theft crimes in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application. • Any offense of sexual assault on a client by a
psychotherapist, as defined in section 18-3-405.5 C.R.S in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
• Crimes of moral turpitude (prostitution, public lewdness/exposure, etc.) in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application.
• More than one (1) D.U.I. in the 7 years immediately preceding the submittal of application. • Any felony homicide conviction (no time
limit).
• Registered Sex Offenders (no time limit).
• Listed on the U.S. Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) or Specially Designated Nationals (SDN).
• Listed on Health and Human Services/Office of Inspector General List of Excluded Individuals/Entities or the GSA List of Parties Excluded
from Federal Programs.
• Any offense in another state, the elements of which are substantially similar to the elements of any of the above offenses.
• If the investigation reveals information that could be relevant to the application, the designated individual responsible for background
checks may request additional information from the applicant. The offense shall be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• Students who have successfully completed the terms of a deferred adjudication agreement will not be disqualified.
